Weight Loss Rx & Services: Best Practices
Purchase your Weight Loss drugs from conventional pharmacies that fill FDA approved prescriptions. CVS, Walgreens, Walmart, Kroger, H-E-B, Randall's, etc.
Weight Loss drugs purchased from conventional pharmacies are often auto-substantiated, no receipts required.
If your medical plan does not cover weight loss drugs, purchase your weight loss drugs direct from the manufacturer. See below.
Weight Loss drugs purchased direct from the manufacturer may not auto-substantiate as often as purchases from conventional pharmacies, but manufacturer purchases will not require a Letter of Medical Necessity.
Avoid purchasing weight loss drugs from compound pharmacies, unless you are prepared to submit a Letter of Medical Necessity. Compound prescriptions are not FDA approved. A Letter of Medical Necessity will always be required and be valid for one-year.
Weight loss drugs administered under clinical conditions or by a licensed healthcare professional in their office are eligible weight loss services, but will still require a Letter of Medical Necessity.
Weight loss prescriptions are FSA eligible. Follow this advice to maximize your dollars and time.
